Waitakere Waste Management trip

Today we had an insightful trip to the Waitakere Waste Management site also known the dump where we take our rubbish. We had the lovely Anna who taught us that our rubbish gets put into dug up hole called landfills and then earth is placed on top. For years the rubbish sits under the dirt decomposing and mixing with the land.
Tufala and Julius lifting the rubbish bags and saying how heavy the rubbish bag was. After sorting the rubbish the rubbish bag shrunk meaning that we can 1) recycled plastics and paper/cardboard 2) reuse some rubbish like old t'shirts however scrunchy materials like chip packets need to be thrown into the rubbish

Fact: did you know that clear plastics are shipped to Thailand and over there they turn clear plastics into polar fleeces, scarves?

Then after the tour we got to explore the worm farm.

"Look, it's a worm" said Julius
After a day of learning about rubbish we had fun at the park.

Moments I treasure

This morning Teremoana was so excited that she ran through the door to tell me she had read her book. I asked her to read it, she was hesitant at first however when she saw her mother, her mother encouraged her to sit down and reminded her to use her fingers and to look at the words. Slowly getting into the reading Teremoana said she will restart and began reading the book all by herself. At the end of the book Teremoana joyfully said "mum helps me to read  Miss To'oto'o, she says I'm getting good at reading aye miss To'oto'o?

Moments like this I truly treasure! Whanau feel free to come and hang with your child when you can I have provided spaces within the class so you can do this!

Part 1 Life education

Today we learnt the importance of our lungs, heart, stomach, and brains are at life education.
Dr D'Shon pointed out the importance of our hearts. It pumps blood around the body.

Kendreyk pointed to the stomach and highlighted that it is the boss of the body and tells all the parts of the body how to function.
Max pointing to the lungs and we learnt that the lungs take the oxygen through its bronchioles.
Jahdei pointed to the stomach and we learnt that the stomach squishes and squashes food.
